Dr. Karl-Heinz Böhm
Professor (Emeritus)

Ph.D. University of Kiel 1954
Joined the department 1967

Prof. Böhm's primary research interest is the formation of low-mass stars, particularly T-Tauri stars, and their circumstellar environments. He is especially interested in the formation of jets and highly collimated outflows from these stars and their relationship to the stellar disk formed by accretion. These so-called Herbig-Haro jets produce shock waves whose optical and near-infrared spectra are analyzed in detail in order to extract the physical conditions in the jet-forming zone. Prof. Böhm also investigates the equation of state of very dense stellar matter, such as white dwarfs.
