TJO Evening Public Talks and Celestial Viewing
Wednesday evenings throughout the Spring, the Astronomy department will be
hosting public events at either the UW Planetarium or
the Theodor Jacobsen Observatory. The public viewing
at Jacobsen Observatory continues, as usual, through the summer and early fall:
- TJO Hours
- March: 7 - 9 pm
- April through September: 9 - 11 pm
- October, November (1st Weds only in Nov.): 7 - 9 pm
The talks at the Jacobsen Observatory during the open houses start approximately 10 minutes after opening and take place in the classroom that adjoins the Observatory. It
is strongly recommended that you make reservations for attending the talk as the classroom where the talks are given (adjoining the Observatory) holds
only 45 people. Please email: anamunn -at- u.washington.edu to request a seat be reserved. No reservations are needed if you just wish
to tour the rest of the observatory and view through the telescopes, if clear.
The talks of the open house season are given by undergraduates at the University of Washington, individuals who
are either majoring in physics and astronomy or are in other majors but really enthusiastic about astronomy. The level of the talks varies with
the topic. Some are geared more to the younger visitors; most are geared for high school level. Please come and lend your support. By being
in the audience you will be taking part and playing an important role in the educational program at the U of W.
