Shi Shi Beach/Point of the Arches

Breaking out onto Shi Shi Beach from the northern overland trail. It was just as gorgeous as I remembered it from last year. Only this time we had the whole day to explore the area.

Although we had the whole day to check the area out, we really couldn't do much until the tide went back out, so we took advantage of the hot afternoon sun to go for a swim in the ocean, which was cold as hell.

Still entertaining ourselves til low tide.

Finally with the tides going out, we could rockhop out to some of the huge seastacks offshore.

Once we got out to some of these seastacks, we were blown away. You could only see a few big arches from shore, but when we got out there we discovered countless arches and caves. Some of these seastacks had complete networks eroded through them.

Unfortunately, we ran out of daylight before we were able to explore much, so we headed back to camp and planned on checking more stuff out during the morning low tide before we hiked out.

Pretty nice sunset from camp.

Here's a shot of one of peninsulas at Point of the Arches during the morning low tide.

One of the first cool arches we came across during our morning jaunt.

Another cool arch or tunnel that went probably 100 ft or so all the way through this seastack.

At the tip of the little peninsula there was a seastack we were actually able to scramble up on top of. Here I am about 3/4 of the way up.

Dan on top...notice the bird crap the rocks are covered in.

The view from the top was amazing.

On the way back to shore we came across yet one more very cool cave. After this we packed up our gear and hiked back to the car. From there we made the drive over to Sol Duc to start our next phase of the trip.
