Here is a list of materials and suggestions for use in the lecture hall or in sections to bring an added touch to your lectures and to help students visualize concepts.

Image Banks

The UW Astronomy Department Slide Collection On-Line: Go to this link and click on 'Browse Terms' on the right, to set the field you want to search on. Then, in the left boxes, fill in what you want to search for. Then, you'll have to scroll down to click on 'Start Search'. The data will be searched for all the slides that have that word in that field.

Solar System 200 Pictures on CD-ROM for PC and MAC (including 40 3D images, Holiday)

CD is located on the video shelf in the A-wing supply room.

Lecture Material from Outside Sources

  1. "Understanding the Universe: An Introduction to Astronomy"
    We now have the complete set of videos from Prof. Alex Filippenko's lectures at UC Berkeley, part of The Great Courses on Tape series produced by The Teaching Company. The videos were shot without an audience of st udents, and thus seem more like Dr. Filippenko's "textbook on tape" than the dynamic lecturing experience one would expect. The course comes in five parts: I. Unlocking the Secrets of the Heavens, II. The Solar System, III. The Stars and Their Lives, IV. A Universe of Galaxies, V. The Birth and Life of the Universe. Each video comes with a course guide that includes learning objectives, outlines for the lectures, essential readings, and questions to consider. The videos are kept in the supply room next to the planetarium in the A-wing of PAB.

Transparency Collections

There's a big folder in the lounge that contains transparencies from several textbooks, arranged by subject. Feel free to borrow, but be sure to return them.
