Abstract:
CV systems in which mass transfer from the cool secondary to the white
dwarf has temporarily ceased are of special interest. These systems (MV
Lyr is an example) provide opportunities to study the white dwarf in a
spectroscopically isolated condition. FUSE, IUE and APO spectra have
been analyzed with the BINSYN program to determine the temperature,
mass, photospheric log g, radius, and chemical composition of the white
dwarf in MV Lyr. The analysis also determines the distance to the
system, sets constraints on the properties of the cool secondary, and
sets a limit on the current rate of mass transfer.
