Title: Star Formation Thresholds and Galaxy Edges

Abstract:
The gaseous components of disk galaxies are observed to extend beyond their stellar components. In the outer parts of galaxies the rate of star formation drops rapidly when the surface density falls below a critical value. I will present a theory for the existence of large-scale star formation thresholds and will show that its predictions agree well with these and other observations.
