Welcome to the UW campus planetarium

Star Ball

In this site you will find information on times and dates the planetarium is open, connections to school activities to do before and after your visit, and information about this volunteer outreach effort. Here are some highlights:

Public Shows

We are happy to announce a new winter program to continue our Observatory Open Houses to the public throughout the year. We offer free planetarium shows on the first and third Wednesdays of each month (excluding school closers). All shows begin at 7 pm and will last about 50 minutes. The dates for the 2008-2009 season are:

November 19th, December 3rd, January 7th, January 21st, February 11th, and February 25th.

For more information, please click the Public Shows tab on the left.

Group Visits

We welcome school groups studying astronomy, public groups (astronomy clubs, scouts, etc), and on-campus groups to visit the planetarium on Fridays during the regular University school year.

For more information, click the Group Visits tab on the left.

About our planetarium

Built with the new building in 1994, the planetarium provides a detailed and accurate simulation of the night sky. Mark and Kristine's Student Tech Fee proposal to upgrade the planetarium provided $90,000 worth of new equipment. We are now equipped with a permanently mounted digital projection system (in addition to the starball), a library of digital visualizations, and a new sound system! For details, check out our proposal.
