Research

I have finished my PhD in May 2006, and am now a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, MA. Please go to my CfA site http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/~aseth for my current web page.
A list of my current publications (via ADS) can be found here. Here are a list of my research interests.
  • Probing the globular cluster systems of nearby spiral galaxies.
  • Studying nuclear star clusters, massive clusters of stars that are found at the centers of many galaxies.
  • Analyzing the stellar populations of nearby edge-on galaxies with Julianne Dalcanton and Roelof de Jong. This work is published in two papers in the Astronomical Journal. Pretty pictures of the galaxies can be seen here. The galaxy shown to the left, NGC 4631, is one of 16 galaxies in our sample.
  • Searching for young and old clusters in dwarf irregular galaxies using HST snapshot data of the Virgo and Fornax Clusters. This work was done in collaboration with with Bryan Miller and Knut Olsen at CTIO in Chile, with results published in 2004 AJ, 127, 798 (or on astro-ph).
  • Testing and improving the star formation and feedback recipes used by GASOLINE, a N-Body code used to do cosmological simulations of galaxy formation. This is work I am doing with Greg Stinson Tom Quinn from the N-body Shop.

Personal

There at the left is my honey, Andrea, and myself. We got hitched three years ago. For more pictures, check out my photo albums here. More details of our recent travels can be found at our blog: andreasmardon.com/blog. Also check out some of the music I am involved in on my music page
