The Undergraduate Astronomical Institute (UAI) was created by a core group of upper-division astronomy and physics majors at the University of Washington for purposes of encouraging independent research, outreach, comraderie, and on-going interaction among undergraduates. The following links introduce part of what we are all about.

Student Research
Undergraduates in astronomy have many opportunities for research under the supervision of graduate students, post-docs, and professors. Current research includes working with Sloan data, Manashtash Ridge Observatory data, as well as problems in astrophysical theory. |
Radio Astronomy
The Palen Radio Observatory's purpose is to provide undergrads of various disciplines the opportunity to learn about not only radio astronomy, but programming, engineering, and general research techniques as well. |
Optical Astronomy
The dome on the A-Wing deck of the physics and astronomy building will soon house a new 16-inch telescope. Undergraduates will be involved in setting up the telescope, computer, CCD camera, and everything else involved in observing. Astronomy 480 is the course to take to learn how to observe and process and analyze data. |
Astronomy Club (League of Astronomers)
The League of Astronomers is a club at the University of Washington that seeks to both promote and explain the cosmos to others (and ourselves!). To this end, we hope to do various activities such as campus star parties and sidewalk astronomy events. |
Astronomy undergrads are among the most active on campus in reaching out to the public to educate as many as possible about how great astronomy is. |
