The Year of Galileo Student News
Pre-Map Program The Pre-Major in Astronomy Program (Pre-MAP) is a research and mentoring program for first year students offered by the University of Washington Astronomy Department. The primary goal of Pre-MAP is to increase retention of students traditionally unrepresented in science, math and technical majors. Students enroll in the Pre-MAP seminar to learn astronomical research techniques that they apply to research projects conducted in small groups, receive one-on-one mentoring and peer support for the duration of the academic year and beyond and are invited to attend Astronomy Department events and Pre-MAP field trips. Our current crop of Pre-MAP students have undertaken research that had been presented at major astronomical conferences and made it into the news.
