Questions from lecture and in general
If the textbook explains something very well, then it is not covered much in lecture.
- Why repeat the text in lecture when you paid good money to purchase the text?
- If lecture just echoed the text, there would be no need to purchase the text.
- If lecture just echoed the text, there would be no need to attend lecture.
- Lectures are for reinforcing what is important and to highlight emphasis.
- Lectures are to bring you media not easily found from the text or own searches.
- Lecture tutorials reinforce concepts that are universally difficult to grasp.
- If you are merely skimming your reading of the text, you probably won't do well on the final exam.
Final Exam - December 14, 2009, 8:30 am - 10:20 am, Architecture 147
- Is there math on the final? If so, what kind?
- Very little math will appear on the final exam.
- You should be able to reason a relationship. (For example: your mass doubles, how does the force of gravity between you and the Earth change?)
- What is the format of the final and can we have a practice test?
- Multiple choice, as was presented in the reading quizzes
- Short answers and short essays - as done in reading quizzes
- Classifying inference versus direct observation (scientific process)
- Questions from the exercises (except math review)
- Will a review sheet be provided?
- We have review sessions scheduled for sections during the last week of the quarter, and Sunday night before the final (see calendar)
- Your review sheets will be the questions on:
- the exercises,
- on the reading quizzes,
- lecture tutorials
- participation surveys, and
- lecture slides (for emphasis)
We will not be printing any additional review sheets.
Grade Status
- How do we know how well we are doing in the course? Because there is no midterm and online assignments are only partially graded. What's the best way to see how we are doing?
